“This is theater as community. It is holy theater not because it exalts something on high, but because for the time onstage, the audience and the storyteller are one, and all those people, though each seeing and hearing it slightly differently, are following the same course and going on a journey together.” –Tarell Alvin McCraney
Portland Story Theater knows the power of spoken word and has been at the forefront in giving voice to real, true stories since 2004. You can be a part of this exciting community that promotes understanding and fosters radical empathy through the art and craft of live storytelling. We believe that real, true stories break down barriers and encourage people to be vulnerable ane present in ways that are crucial to the full expression of our shared humanity. Story is the glue that holds us together and sustains us. When we hear a story told with intimacy and vulnerability, a part of us opens up to listen. We connect to another person’s journey, and we are changed by hearing their truth.
Celebrating our 15th Season, we offer the popular Urban Tellers® shows with two Immigrant and Refugee Special Ediitons, the beloved Armchair Adventurer, new Solo Works, and the ever-popular Valentine’s show, Kiss & Tell.
